C. Perkins Electric Inc., a company that has served a wide range of local electrical service needs in the Creswell and Cottage Grove areas for three years, is expanding under new ownership.

Started by the father-and-son duo of Clyde Perkins and Chuck Perkins, the company was purchased in mid-September by two former employees, Sean Quinlan and Eric Steinke.

"We're basically a home shop; we're looking to serve the Creswell and Cottage Grove areas," Steinke said. "No one else is listed with the Chamber of Commerce in either place as an electrician, so we can fill a need for local service and keep local dollars in those communities."

"That's the big thing for us," Quinlan added, "keeping the service in the community."

Clyde Perkins, with 37 years' experience as a journeyman electrician, serves as supervisor and salesman for the company, which performs new and existing residential and small-commercial electrical work, including repairs, remodels and service changes.

"He's our electrical guru," Steinke said of Perkins. "He's lived in Creswell his whole life and he loves to deal with people."

Steinke, 33, who lives in Springfield, is a journeyman low-voltage electrician with a business degree from the University of Oregon. He worked for C. Perkins Electric for one year before partnering with Quinlan to purchase the company.

Quinlan, 45, lives in Creswell and is a journeyman electrician who'd been with the company for one-and-a-half years before partnering with Steinke.

C. Perkins Electric has five employees, including another journeyman, plus its two owners.

"We just added another employee, so we're growing," Steinke said, adding that the company's journeymen average 25 years' experience.

Because Steinke is a low-voltage electrician, the company is looking to expand their services into work on telephone, data and home automation systems.

C. Perkins Electric is located at 260 E. Oregon Ave. The telephone number is 895-4466.

Steinke noted with a laugh that "with the price of gas going up the way it is," the partners have another good reason to prefer local work.

"But really, we're just looking forward to getting more involved in the community," Steinke said.
